A 19-year-old man was sentenced on Monday by French justice to two years in prison, one of which was suspended, for his tweets in which he called for the killing of the police officer who killed a 17- year old
The event in question brought strong protests across France. Nael's death occurred during a traffic control in Nanterre on June 27, causing riots for several days across France.
On June 28 and 29, Corentin S . tweeted a photo of a policeman, claiming he was the perpetrator and promising various rewards: 550 euros if someone cut off his hand, 1,200 euros if both were cut off, 2,000 euros if they killed him. The young man, who was arrested on Thursday, also posted messages calling for an attack at a shopping center in the Paris suburb of Creteil.
The mall did indeed become a target for the rebels on June 30, forcing authorities to hastily evacuate those inside.
The police made 21 arrests. During the hearing in Creteil, Corentin S. expressed remorse, while stressing that he had to change.
"I know the damage I caused, it's true that I overdid it ," he said before the court, adding that his goal with the posts was to make money.
Sarah Ikaoui, Corentin S.'s lawyer, spoke of the "deep immaturity" of the young man, recalling at the same time that he had a clean criminal record.
