NATO leaders gather for summit in Vilnius
The NATO summit

Under extremely strict security measures, the next meeting of the leaders of the NATO military alliance will take place today and tomorrow in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The summit takes place at a critical time for Europe, as the war in Ukraine has passed its 500th day, while its effects have left big marks on the European economy.

The leaders of the countries of the largest military organization in the world are expected to discuss today and tomorrow many issues, including Ukraine's request to join NATO, as well as the green light for membership that Turkey already gave to Sweden.

A few days ago, President Biden dashed Ukraine's hopes for faster membership, saying it should wait for the end of the war. Germany was in the same position.

In addition to the prospect of membership, NATO leaders are also expected to pledge continued military and financial aid to Kiev.

Some international media reports that the United States of America has made a pact with Russia, through China, accepting a ban on Ukraine's NATO membership in exchange for Putin not carrying out any nuclear attacks.

To prevent Kiev from joining the military alliance, several member countries have already begun to raise their cause amid concerns that membership at this time would involve NATO officially at war with Russia.

An important topic that is expected to be discussed is that of strengthening NATO's defense, especially in the eastern part, which for the most part shares a border with the enemy.

For the success of this summit, where the highest heads of state will be present, extremely strong security measures have been taken, this is also because the distance between Vilnius and Russia is not very far.

More than 1,000 soldiers have been deployed to Lithuania, while additional planes and helicopters will fly in the skies, monitored by German anti-aircraft units and Patriot missiles.
