Oslo is on track to become the world's first capital city with an all-electric public transport system. This is the goal of the municipality of the Norwegian capital for the end of 2023.
Replacing the diesel buses with 450 electric ones will save a lot of money in the long run, according to Sirin Stav, deputy mayor of the municipality responsible for the environment and transport.
"Climate change is happening and we need to reduce emissions. That's why Oslo is electrifying all public transport by the end of next year, making us perhaps the first capital in the world to have completely zero-emission public transport. We're doing all this to lower emissions, reduce noise and make the air cleaner so the city is better for everyone."
It encourages other cities to follow Oslo's example. In addition to electric buses, which are 5% cheaper than diesel ones, the city of 700,000 has already electrified most of its ferries.
