The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, ordered the Government this Friday to start the construction of a gas center in Turkey.

Construction should begin at the suggestion of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and with the aim of exporting Russian gas to Europe.

"Together with Putin, we gave our Ministry of Energy and the competent institution in Russia an order to carry out joint work," Erdogan told reporters on his way back from Kazakhstan, where he met with the Russian president.

During the meeting with Erdogan in Astana, Putin proposed the creation of a gas center in Turkey for sending Russian gas to Europe.

He said the route through Turkey proved to be the most reliable way of delivering gas to European Union countries at a time when Russian deliveries to the EU were affected by sanctions and leaks at the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines.
