The Jewish chief rabbi in Albania, Yoel Kaplan, is fighting in Gaza as a soldier of Israel.

Rabbi Kaplan, who is also an Israeli officer, returned to Israel after October 7 shortly after the Hamas attack.

The pro-Palestinian organization "Free Palestine" has asked Prime Minister Edi Rama that Yoel Kaplan no longer set foot in Albania.

So, a video showing Kaplan in Gaza was posted on social media by a Jewish community page on Monday, but it is not clear exactly when it was taken.

"Free Palestine expresses its deep indignation at the news that Yoel Kaplan, the chief rabbi of Albania, appointed by Berisha's government in 2011, is wearing the uniform of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and is actively participating in the genocide against the Palestinian people. in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

We call on the government of Edi Rama to immediately remove Kaplan from all religious duties of the Jewish community in Albania and declare him persona non grata. Also, we call on the Jewish community in Albania to distance itself from this individual and his reprehensible actions.

Such actions not only tarnish the position of the religious leader, but also compromise the image of Albania, a country that throughout history fought against oppression and for human rights. The involvement of any Albanian citizen, especially those in the position of spiritual leadership, in actions that violate international law and contribute to human suffering is unacceptable.

These actions come after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel's continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is illegal and must end. The ICJ decision underscores the illegality of supporting any action that perpetuates the occupation and violence against the Palestinian people. It is unacceptable that any representative of Albania is involved in such crimes that defy international law and human rights.

We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and call on all communities to refuse complicity in crimes against humanity. Albania must reaffirm its commitment to justice, peace and the principles of international law ", says the reaction of the association Free Palestine.
