A two-year-old child in Gjilan was saved thanks to medical intervention after swallowing a remote control battery.

Gastroenterologist Besnik Elezi has announced that he was the one who made the intervention possible.

Elezi also posted photos on Facebook of what the battery looked like in the child's stomach, and after it was removed.

Swallowing batteries is extremely dangerous because upon contact with stomach fluids, it creates a short circuit, releasing alkaline chemicals that severely damage tissues.
