Elon Musk: The US should leave NATO, it makes no sense for us to pay for
Elon Musk

Elon Musk has sparked widespread debate after a statement suggesting the United States should withdraw from NATO, saying "it makes no sense for America to pay for Europe's defense."

Musk expressed this stance by reposting a tweet from user Mike Lee, who called for the US to leave the alliance.

Musk, known for owning the companies Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink, and also a major ally and financier of Donald Trump, wrote: "Really should" and added that "it makes no sense for America to pay for Europe's defense."

This post immediately caused a huge reaction, reaching 23 million views within a few hours and opening a wide debate.

Musk's comment is in line with a theme already raised by the current US administration, which has asked NATO allies to increase defense spending, trying to ease the financial burden they carry on the US's shoulders.

This followed a shift in US policy, with an unexpected turn in support of Ukraine and a decision to limit joint military exercises, while also announcing a plan to relocate parts of US military forces from Germany to Hungary.
