A man has been charged after sending serious death threats to people in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, US.
A man currently living in Albania has been accused of sending death threats and harassing messages to victims via text messages and voicemails over a period of more than a year.
Jarvis Shabazz, 37, was formally charged Monday with eight counts of interstate threats and two counts of cyberstalking, according to U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.
In the indictment, the US prosecutor states that on October 10, 2022, Shabazz left a voicemail threatening to kill a victim.
He said he would "dismember the bodies."
A week later, he left another voicemail, telling the victim: "I want you to understand me well. You will die at my hands. White people cannot protect you. And your children will suffer the same fate."
Authorities say Shabazz continued sending threatening messages for 15 months, frequently changing his phone number so he could continue the threats after the victims had blocked his number.
“Shabazz’s threats were filled with violent descriptions, religious references, racist epithets and foul language,” the US attorney said.
If convicted, Shabazz could face up to 50 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 on each count.
