Not only Trump - Giorgia Meloni at "war" with the Spanish Prime

Beyond the balance of government, there is not much that unites Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Especially immigration policy!

During the debate held yesterday at the European Council, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen welcomed the European Parliament's vote on the new regulation on the return of migrants and called for European leaders to hold a strategic debate on immigration policies.

But then Pedro Sánchez took the floor, expressing his opposition. The Spanish Prime Minister said he saw no need for further strategic debates and opposed the new regulation on returns, arguing that it would not bring concrete results.

At this point, Giorgia Meloni intervened, sharply criticizing the Spanish government's decision to legalize hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants.

The Italian Prime Minister accused Sánchez that this measure does not only affect Spain, but also has consequences for neighboring countries, influencing their immigration policies.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever also joined the debate, saying briefly:  I'm on Mette's team!

To avoid escalating the clash, the president of the European Council, António Costa, interrupted the discussion and announced that the issue would be addressed more extensively at a future summit.
