Israel launches drone and missile attack on Iran

Israel launched an attack on Iran in retaliation in the early hours of April 19. Israel had warned that it will respond to Iran, after the attack with more than 300 drones and missiles.

Media reports that there were explosions in Isfahan, near a military base. 3 explosions have been heard, while Iranian authorities say they have shot down all three drones launched by Israel.

Immediately after the attack, Tehran activated the air defense system, while saying that the nuclear plants are safe. So far no casualties or damage have been reported, Iranian state media quoted an army general as saying.

Due to the attack, flights were suspended at several airports, while the situation has now returned to normal. Flights have also started at Tehran's main airport, Imam Khomeini.

Iran has been on high alert since Israel said it would retaliate. Tehran fired more than 300 missiles and drones at Israel between midnight on April 13 and 14 in retaliation for the April 1 attack on its consulate in Damascus, Syria.

Israel's Western allies throughout the week, particularly the US and Britain, have urged the Israeli government not to mount a heavy-handed response to the Iranian missile attack.
