German intelligence snores Russian troops in talk of 'civilian

German intelligence officials say they have wiretapped radio communications during which they say members of Russian troops are heard discussing the killing of civilians indiscriminately in Ukraine. Such a development dismisses Moscow's claims that acts of atrocities were committed only after its army fled the outskirts of occupied areas near Kiev.

German officials, who informed members of parliament on Wednesday, spoke about two separate communications during which Russian soldiers described how they had questioned Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, before shooting them to death.

German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that one of the Russian soldiers was heard saying how he had shot a person on a bicycle.

Earlier this week, aerial images independently verified by The New York Times showed a Russian armoured vehicle shooting at a civilian on a bicycle in Bucha. It is not clear whether the person in the video was the same as the one mentioned in the radio message.

Although Moscow denies targeting civilians during what it calls a special military operation, in the last week world opinion has harshly condemned Russia as photo footage emerged of scenes of the massacre in Buca. Bodies of slain civilians have been found lying on the streets after Russian forces fled some of the villages north of Kiev.

Buça Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk told the Russian Voice Service of America that he was shocked by what he had seen, bodies thrown into the streets and destruction in the city.

The United States and its Western allies have launched war crimes investigations related to the killings in Bucha and other Ukrainian cities, while President Joe Biden has said Russian President Vladimir Putin should face a war crimes trial.
