The building of the Russian news agency in Berlin is bombed

An improvised explosive device has been found in a residential building in Berlin that houses journalists from the Russian news agency RIA. The news was confirmed by the Berlin Police, as the bomb was detonated.

Police in Berlin have announced that criminal investigators are studying an improvised explosive device that was found and defused on Friday, in a residential building housing journalists from the Russian news agency RIA.

A German police spokesman has said criminal investigators are investigating how dangerous it was and who it intended to "eliminate" the bomb, the BBC reports.

The Russian embassy in Berlin said a bottle had been thrown at a building window in the Steglitz district of the city.

She blamed what she described as the persecution of the Russian media and their employees in the West. Two state-controlled Russian televisions, RT and Sputnik, were banned in the EU on March 2, a week after the invasion of Ukraine.
