Julia Petrov and her two children, who fled the war in Ukraine and took refuge in Turkey, lost their lives in Hatay after the first earthquake in Kahramanmaraş.
It was Vasyl Bodnar, Ukraine's ambassador to Ankara who confirmed the news.
"Unfortunately, 6 of our Ukrainian citizens lost their lives, while 6 others are missing," he said.
Julia Petrov fled with her children Zakhar (10) and Matvii (5) after the Ukraine-Russia war that started on February 24, 2022 and took refuge in Turkey.
Leaving her husband in Ukraine, who was a soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Petrov settled with a relative with her 2 children in Hatay's Antakya district.
The building where Petrov and her children lived was destroyed by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred on February 6 in the Pazarcık neighborhood of Kahramanmaraş.
Petrov and her two children were trapped under the rubble.
Her husband, who was injured during the war and was being treated in his country, contacted the Ukrainian Embassy in Ankara.
The father, who learned that his wife and children were in the rubble, received the bitter news the day he arrived in Turkey. The bodies of Petrov and the two children were recovered from the wreckage on February 14 and taken to Ukraine.
