Israel is among the countries that have sent the most forces to Turkey to search for survivors under the rubble with the technology it uses in the most sophisticated military actions to locate and find them.
Israeli search and rescue teams have pulled dozens of children alive from the ruins of their homes, not stopping work even on their traditional day off, Saturday. This video shows the moments when they pray during Shabbat in their camp in Turkey.
But a controversial Israeli rabbi is causing controversy with his claims that the earthquakes were divine justice. Shmuel Eliyahu, who serves as the chief rabbi of Safed in northern Israel, claims that God is punishing these places because of their mistreatment of Jews.
"God is judging all the countries around us that want to occupy our land and throw us into the sea," Eliyahu wrote in an editorial published in the Olam Katan newspaper.
The rabbi, who misrepresents the historical facts in this case as well, is known for his extremist statements, for which he has also been accused of inciting racism.
