Numerous businesses of the Albanian Bashkim Osmani, 52 years old

The numerous businesses of Albanian Bashkim Osmani, 52, and his family have not gone unnoticed by Spanish Civil Guard and National Police investigators since he settled on the Spanish island more than twenty years ago.

And there are quite a few: Ritzi Restaurant in Puerto Portas in Mallorca, BO Hotel Majorca, BO Palazzo, also with its initials, in Porec, Croatia, a residence in Camp de Mar, Andratx, one of the oldest cities in the Balearic Islands, an entire building on the Plaça Quadrado in Palma, in addition to an extensive network of casinos and brothels in Hamburg, Germany with franchises in Prague or Moscow .

Investigators from the Civil Guard and the National Police went to Croatia to co-operate in the arrest, as there was a fear that a leak of information could disrupt the entire operation.

Osmani is said to have contacts throughout Croatia and has under his control a former Croatian Secret Service chief as well as current agents.

He made no resistance to the arrest and it is suggested that he had anticipated his lawyers releasing him. However, he is being held in a maximum security prison, awaiting transfer to Mallorca.

Investigators say it is crucial that he be brought to Mallorca. If he stayed in Eastern Europe, he could receive "preferential treatment".
