Google Maps will change the name of "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America" once it is officially updated to the US Geographic Names System, Google said in an X post on Monday.

This change will be visible in the U.S., but the name will remain "Gulf of Mexico" in Mexico. Outside of these two locations, users will see both names in Google Maps.

The Trump administration's Interior Department announced Friday it had officially changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and also the Denali peak in Alaska, which is the highest peak in North America, to Mount McKinley.

Google Maps is owned by Alphabet (GOOGL). O), will make a similar change to Mount McKinley.

President Donald Trump ordered the name changes as part of a series of executive acts hours after taking office on Jan. 20, fulfilling a campaign promise.

"As ordered by the President, the Gulf of Mexico will now be officially known as the Gulf of America and North America's highest peak will bear the name Mount McKinley again," the Department of interior said in a statement last week.
