Maryanne Trump Barry , the sister of the former president,  Donald Trump, has been found dead in her apartment in New York .

According to media reports, the 86-year-old woman was found dead inside her apartment around 4 a.m. Monday after emergency crews responded to a call for cardiac arrest. The cause of death is not yet known but is under investigation.

Until her retirement in 2019, Barry was a senior judge on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, one level below the Supreme Court.

Before becoming a judge, Barry became an Assistant US Attorney in 1974 and was appointed to the federal court in New Jersey by former President Ronald Reagan.

She was later moved to the US Court of Appeals by former President Bill Clinton until he retired in 2019 amid an investigation into her family's tax practices.

Barry had largely stayed out of the spotlight during her brother's presidency, but gained attention after her granddaughter Mary Trump secretly recorded her while promoting a book denouncing the former president.

In the recordings, Barry could be heard harshly criticizing her brother, at one point saying the former president has "no principles" and is "cruel."/ CNN
