"Without a political vision, Europe belongs to the bureaucrats, we need a new era in which we need a logic that leads to bipolarism even in the Old Continent".
This is what Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni declares in a book of interviews entitled "Giorgia's Version", where she talks with the well-known journalist Alessandro Sallusti.
In interviews, she addresses the challenges of the present, from the war in Ukraine to the energy crisis, from the ecological transition to inflation, from the Mattei project for Africa to the challenges that will have to characterize the new European Union. Some excerpts from the book were published by several well-known newspapers in Italy, such as "Corriere della Sera", "La Stampa", "Il Messaggero" and "Il Giornale".
Meloni appreciates the work of the President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen with the words: "She works hard, knows how to listen, it is not difficult to cooperate with her".
"Even if political negotiations on various issues at the community level are not always simple. Therefore, a new approach is needed to overcome the Europe of bureaucrats", the Prime Minister points out in the book.
Regarding the fact that Italy is now being led by conservatives, Meloni says that "this is a significant fact for the whole union" that could prompt a new way forward.
She adds that "if we demonstrate, as we are doing, that a right-wing government can exist in an important European democracy".
In the book, the prime minister also talks about the plan for Africa, the Mattei project, which should become a model of cooperation. She mentions the pact with the citizens to fight fiscal evasion with the motto "less taxes and more services".
"The country needs to perceive a fairer tax system and a government that tries hard," she explains, adding, however, that leading an executive also means "making choices that not everyone immediately understands."
Another of the topics touched on in the interview book is that of reforms. The Prime Minister bets that all reforms will be carried out. "Our changes in the Constitution will give more power to the citizens", she emphasizes.
