An Ohio mother has been sentenced to life in prison after she left her 16-month-old home alone for 10 days and died of starvation and dehydration.

Christel Candelario , 32, pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder and child endangerment as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Candelario left her daughter, Jaylin, at home in Cleveland and went on vacation to Detroit and Puerto Rico in June 2023.

When he returned 10 days later, he found the girl not breathing and called 911. Rescuers found the child dead and determined that the child was extremely dehydrated. The autopsy showed that the little girl died of starvation and severe dehydration.

Candelario, who suffers from depression and mental health issues, said she prayed every day that God would forgive her./ NBC
