Europe in a state of "war": Battle with fires, drought, the risk of

Europe is experiencing one of the most severe heat waves in recent years, with record temperatures, massive fires, power supply problems and severe consequences in several countries on the continent.

In Greece, hundreds of firefighters continue to battle the flames on several fronts, as the fires of recent days have caused casualties and extensive damage. The situation has been worsened by high temperatures and strong winds, which favor the spread of the fires.

At the same time, Romania and Hungary are facing a drought-related energy crisis. Record-low water levels in the Danube River have made it difficult to cool nuclear power plants.

In Romania, authorities carried out controlled explosions to divert water flow to the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, while Hungary has been forced to reduce production at its only nuclear power plant for the first time in more than four decades.

Energy problems have also affected industry. Car manufacturers Dacia and Ford have suspended evening shifts at their factories to reduce electricity consumption, while hydropower plants in Serbia are operating at only about 20% of capacity due to water shortages.

In parallel with the climate emergency, the European Union is also facing a migration crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Following the massive influx of migrants from Morocco, the European Commission has called for the strengthening of external borders and greater support for the Spanish and Moroccan authorities.

Italy has imposed temporary controls on its border with Spain, arguing that the measure is necessary for security reasons.

Meteorologists warn that the heatwave is expected to peak by mid-week, further increasing the risk of new fires, power outages and water supply problems in parts of Europe.
