The White House has thanked billionaire Elon Musk for his contribution to efforts to reduce public spending in President Donald Trump's administration.
After four months of engagement as a special government official, Musk announced that he had completed his mission.
"We thank him for his work and for introducing the DOGE (Doing Government Efficiency) initiative. Efforts to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse will continue," said White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.
She added that members of President Trump's cabinet will continue to collaborate with staff from the Department of Government Efficiency and political appointees at federal agencies to advance the mission launched by Musk.
In a post on his social platform X, the Tesla and SpaceX founder wrote:
“As my term as a special government official comes to an end, I want to thank President Trump for the opportunity to reduce unnecessary spending. The DOGE mission will be strengthened in the future and will become a way of life in the administration.”
Meanwhile, the White House declined to comment on Musk's latest criticism of Trump, stressing that efficiency efforts will continue despite his departure.
