Elon Musk confirmed his departure from US President Donald Trump's administration.

This comes after he led a committee tasked with cutting public spending, sparking an outpouring of criticism from politicians and beyond.

"As my planned term as a special government employee comes to an end, I want to thank President Donald Trump for giving me the opportunity to reduce expenses," the businessman said in a response on the X platform.

“DOGE’s mission will only grow stronger over time as it becomes a way of life across government,” the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency concludes in his message.
