The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has said that the situation in Gaza has reached a new dangerous level.

"The terrible terrorist attacks by Hamas against Israel that killed more than 1,200 people and injured thousands were followed by the intense bombing of Gaza that has already killed 1,800 people and injured thousands more," he said.

Guterres called for "immediate humanitarian access to all of Gaza.

"Even wars have rules. International humanitarian law and the law on human rights must be respected", he said.

Meanwhile, Israel said today that its infantry and tanks had carried out raids inside the Gaza Strip. Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces called for the evacuation of over a million Palestinians from Gaza City to the south of the enclave.

Palestinians have started to leave their homes to escape the Israeli attack.

Thousands of people were seen on the streets of the enclave on Friday, but it is impossible to determine their number. Many others said they will not leave.

Hamas, which controls the territory, vowed to fight to the last drop of blood.

"Death is better than leaving," says 20-year-old Mohammad, standing in the street outside a building destroyed by an Israeli airstrike. "I was born here and I will die here, leaving is a stigma."

The mosques are constantly broadcasting the message: "Stick to your homes." Hold your ground."

"We say to the people of Northern Gaza and Gaza City, stay in your homes and places," Eyad Al-Bozom, spokesman for Hamas' Interior Ministry, told a news conference.

"By carrying out massacres against civilians, the occupation wants to displace us once again from our land."

The UN said that Israel's call for the evacuation of civilians from Gaza was impossible to achieve "without devastating humanitarian consequences".

"The noose around the civilian population in Gaza is tightening. How are 1.1 million people supposed to move through a densely populated war zone in less than 24 hours?” wrote the UN aid chief, Martin Griffiths, on the social network.

The International Committee of the Red Cross also said that the movement of people is impossible.
