The US State Department has reacted to the new President of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska , who during the oath called her country simply "Macedonia".

In response to the interest of the Greek media, a DASH spokesperson has stated that "the US remains committed to the Prespa agreement".

The State Department spokesman said that "with the formation of a new government and the election of a new prime minister, we will continue to reinforce the importance of respecting international agreements and the benefits of full membership in the European Union", reports Protothema.

A day earlier, the European Union also expressed regret that the new president of North Macedonia, Gordana Silanovska-Davkova, did not use the constitutional name of the state when she was sworn in as president in a parliamentary ceremony on Sunday.

"The EU reiterates the importance of fully respecting existing and legally binding agreements, including the Prespa agreement with Greece," EU security and foreign policy spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said in a statement on Sunday. .
