A 40-year-old woman who was sitting on the bench of a court in Thessaloniki, begged the judge not to sentence her husband.

He is accused of domestic violence, where a few hours earlier, in the early hours of yesterday morning, he beat the 40-year-old woman and violently threw her on the children's bed where they were sleeping.

One of the judges was surprised by the woman's request and said :  Are you going to drive us crazy ?

What are you telling us?

He's kicking and punching you and you're making excuses for him?

This is not the first time that the 40-year-old woman has fallen victim to violence by her husband.

Some time ago, she sewed up the right side of her head from the violence and no one reported it.

 " I know he has a girlfriend and that's why we have more fights. But my soul told me to make an effort not to be separated because we have been together for years", she said in court before finishing her testimony.

In his statement, the accused admitted that he had beaten his wife, but tried to convince the court that she was responsible for his actions. “I came home after one night and he wouldn't let me do some things I wanted to do.

I saw him holding a knife from the kitchen, without threatening me. She was screaming and pulled my clothes off so I slapped her. We always have fights", he said.

The man was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for three years, for domestic assault on his wife.
