"In case of victory, Putin will not stop in Ukraine, but we will also see tensions in the Western Balkans. This is the warning of the Romanian Defense Chief Gheorghita Vlad, who has asked his country and NATO to prepare more well for a possible war with Russia. He has warned that Moscow will continue its military escalation if it succeeds in Ukraine.

"The Russian Federation has become a problem for the world order and for democracy. In reality, it is Russia's war with the democratic world, not with Ukraine," Romania's top military officer said in an interview with the Free Europe broadcaster.

Appointed defense chief in November 2023, Vlad said he believes Russia "will not stop" in Ukraine: "If it wins, the main target will then be the Republic of Moldova. We will see tensions in the Western Balkans."

Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities said two French "volunteers" were killed and three other foreigners were slightly wounded on Thursday during a Russian attack in the southern town of Beryslav, near Kherson.

"Foreign volunteers were killed and wounded due to an enemy attack in Beryslav," regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin wrote on Telegram.

"The Russian army killed two French citizens and three other foreigners were slightly wounded", added Prokudin without specifying the exact functions of these "volunteers".
