All 27 European leaders have agreed on a 50 billion euro aid package for Ukraine, European Council President Charles Michel said on Thursday.

He said that the agreement " closes a stable, long-term and predictable financing for Ukraine ".

There were fears that Hungary's prime minister, Viktor Orban, would block the aid package as he did at a European summit last December.

Orban had said he wanted to force a review of EU policy towards Ukraine and questioned the idea of ​​committing to funding Ukraine for the next four years.

But it seems that he has been persuaded not to veto after threats to freeze the Hungarian economy.

Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, said that today was "a good day for Europe".
