Born in the middle of the war in Gaza, the 1-month-old baby has not known the embrace of his parents.

The little one was born by cesarean section after her mother, Hana, could not survive an Israeli air strike and could not even give her daughter a name.

"We just call her Hanna's daughter Abu Amsha," says the nurse, who is tending to the newborn in a hospital in central Gaza.

In all the chaos that the ongoing fighting has caused and with entire families almost wiped out, doctors and rescue teams often struggle to find guardians for children who have been left without parents.

"We have lost contact with her family. "None of her relatives have come forward and we don't know what happened to her father," says the nurse about the newborn.

Children, who make up nearly half of Gaza's population of 2.3 million, have had their lives destroyed by the war.

According to Palestinian officials, more than 11,500 children under the age of 18 have been killed and thousands more seriously injured as a result of the war.

According to a recent report by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor , more than 24,000 children in Gaza have lost one or both parents.
