Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes , known as “El Mencho,” was killed during a special operation by the Mexican Army against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Tapalpa, Jalisco state.
He died from his wounds while being transported to Mexico City. Oseguera Cervantes was considered one of the most wanted drug traffickers internationally, as he led one of the most powerful criminal organizations in Mexico.
As the founder of the CJNG, he led the cartel for years and was responsible for escalating violence against police forces and other rivals since 2015.
For his activity, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) had placed him on the list of the world's most wanted persons and was offering a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to his capture.
Following his death, Mexican authorities and the DEA have focused their focus on the most wanted drug traffickers, including cartel leaders, local associates and individuals involved in money laundering.
The list includes members of “Los Chapitos,” the Sinaloa Cartel faction named after their father, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, as well as other figures from the CJNG and the Venezuelan organization Tren de Aragua.
Some of them have been classified as "terrorists" by the US State Department, underscoring the seriousness of these allegations.
The most wanted traffickers after the death of El Mencho
Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán – Son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who is suspected of ordering violence in the city of Culiacan after the arrest of his brother, Ovidio Guzmán (“El Ratón”). He faces a $10 million bounty and charges of conspiracy and drug distribution.
Jesus Alfredo Guzmán – Brother of Ivan Archivaldo, also active in the leadership of Los Chapitos, who remains at large following the arrests and extraditions of other family members.
Julian Anthony Arcaga Carias (“El Porky”) – Leader of the Mara Salvatrucha gang, charged with extortion, weapons possession, and conspiracy to use heavy weapons. The reward for information on him is $5 million.
Tsuen Yip – Suspected of trafficking raw materials for the production of fentanyl and anabolic steroids for the US market for five years. He is wanted in more than 80 countries and the reward for information leading to his arrest is $5 million.
Limborio Núñez-Aguirre (“El Karateca”) – Key figure in the Sinaloa cartel and a middleman in the trafficking of fentanyl from Los Chapitos. Authorities are offering a $1 million reward for his capture, considering him a crucial link in the drug networks supplying the United States.
Following the death of "El Mencho," Mexican authorities and the DEA are intensifying efforts to crack down on other cartel leaders, targeting drug trafficking networks, money laundering, and international criminal activities.
Capturing or neutralizing these individuals remains a top priority to curb violence and the distribution of drugs to the US and other countries.
The updated list reflects a clear strategy by the authorities to crack down on the most powerful cartels and reinforce security in areas most affected by criminal activity.
