Does Vetëvendosje have a name for President? Kurti: We will try to avoid

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said after meeting with LDK leader Abdixhiku that Vetevendosje does not have any specific candidate for President of the country.

Likewise, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo do not have a name.

However, the Prime Minister stressed that maximum efforts will be made to avoid early elections in Kosovo.

"Next, we either find a specific name that guarantees us that 2/3 of the deputies who are present in the hall will vote by March 4th, or the political entities agree on the way forward. It seems necessary to have somewhere around 83-84 deputies or 85, because if just one is missing, then we automatically go to elections. The general impression is that the political entities consider that they should not take away the first half of 2026. We will try our best to avoid elections due to the failure to elect the president," Kurti said.

A day ago, Kurti met with PDK leader Bedri Hamza. The latter stated that they will not be an obstacle to state processes, but neither will they support candidacies that do not represent civic unity.

He requested reflection from those who have the constitutional responsibility to propose candidacies with broad support.

The constitution stipulates that the election of the head of state must take place no later than 30 days before the end of the term of the current president, Vjosa Osmani.
