Russian bombing threatens civilians in ukraine's east

Throughout eastern Ukraine, sirens of sporadic air strikes have been made at almost constant. Today, even areas that were considered safe are no longer such.

This is the situation in Kharkiv. The horrific footage, filmed by Sun newspaper editor Jerome Starkey, shows a paramedic team being attacked from above. A man in red protects an injured woman on the floor, while others flee in panic near him.

There are bombings all over the city, with five people killed. But it's not just Kharkiv where Russia is said to be taking the lives of civilians. Zolote is a village right on the front line of Donbas.

Near the war line there are still inhabited villages and towns, where civilians have not abandoned their homes, never thinking that war would escalate until this stage. Now that Russia is gathering troops for a major offensive in the East, the situation for them seems even more dramatic.

The Ukrainian armed forces say they repelled a number of Russian attacks on Sunday, destroying and taking dozens of tanks, armoured vehicles and drones.

But the more frustrated Russia is on the ground, the more they are expected to vent their anger from the air. For the people of eastern Ukraine, this is a terrible prospect.
