Boeing is in trouble again, the former engineer makes accusations: Dreamliner

The US Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a whistleblower's allegations against a Boeing airliner. According to him, the company has ignored several concerns related to the safety and quality of production of the aircraft manufacturer's 787 and 777 aircraft.

Sam Salehpour, a Boeing aircraft engineer, has accused the company of "falling short" on several processes while producing the 777 and 787 Dreamliners, and he says the risks could be catastrophic as the years go by and the aircraft age.

The New York Times was the first to report the whistleblower's claims.

The planemaker has faced a full-blown safety crisis that has damaged its reputation after a fuselage panel on a 737 MAX plane exploded while in the open sky on January 6.

That led to changes in the direction of the company as US regulators put a brake on production of the line and shipments fell by half in March.

Engineer Sam Salehpour said he faced retaliation, such as threats and exclusion from meetings, after identifying engineering problems that affected the planes' structural integrity.

Boeing halted deliveries of the 787 widebody for more than a year until August 2022 as the FAA investigated quality problems and manufacturing defects.

A Senate subcommittee will examine the concerns raised about these aircraft in a hearing next week.

Boeing did not immediately comment on the claims about the 777, but disputed the concerns raised by Salehpour about the 787.

"These claims about the structural integrity of the 787 are inaccurate and do not represent the comprehensive work Boeing has done to ensure the quality and long-term safety of the aircraft," the company said in a statement.
