The fires that are burning areas such as Achaia, Preveza, Chios and Kefalonia in Greece are not only burning forests and houses, but are also threatening people and animals trapped in the flames.
Dogs, cats, sheep, horses, cows and other animals, loyal companions of humans, are facing terror. At a time when people are fighting to save their property and evacuate areas, animals have no way to escape the flames.
There are also images of hope from the fire front. Greek media have published images of animals escaping the fire and finding themselves in the arms of rescuers.

The photo that has been making the rounds on the internet shows a boy in Achaia rushing to escape the flames on his motorbike, holding a sheep in his arms.
Every rescue in these apocalyptic conditions is a small victory for life.

Volunteers and firefighters, amidst thick smoke and embers, are trying to save not only people but also animals that have found themselves in a dead end.
