The head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, warned Serbia that its Euro-Atlantic aspirations do not coincide with the relations that Belgrade has with Russia.
"Maintaining close ties with Russia is not compatible with its EU membership process and is also harmful to Serbia's national interest."
Borrell spoke after the meeting of the ministers of the member states and those of the Western Balkan countries at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, where the situation in the region and the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia were discussed.
Borrell asked the countries that have not adapted their foreign policy to that of the European Union to change their behavior. Serbia is the only country in the region that has not imposed sanctions on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, not following the example of Brussels. Meanwhile, speaking about the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, the head of EU diplomacy called on the parties to implement all the obligations arising from this process and put an end to tensions and provocative behavior.
"Full and quick implementation of the agreement is the only way to normalize relations between Belgrade and Pristina. Mutual tensions and provocations must end. The negative atmosphere and lack of constructiveness must also stop. "Being a member of the European Union means being able to cooperate and act as good neighbors, overcoming all the difficulties of the past", stressed Borrell.
The Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla, said that she had complained to the member states about the violation of the agreement by Serbia, while she emphasized that Sweden, which holds the next presidency of the EU, is discussing with other members about the application of Kosovo to the bloc.
