Arrest for espionage - Prosecution charges former Croatian pilot: He was giving

The Split District Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment for espionage against a former Croatian Air Force military pilot and his partner, a Serbian citizen from Kosovo.

Both were arrested in August last year on suspicion of espionage, while with the filing of the indictment, the investigations against them have been completed and the case moves to the next phase of the criminal procedure.

According to the Croatian Prosecutor's Office, pilot JI, while serving in the Croatian Armed Forces, is suspected of having continuously provided his partner, AM, with classified information that he had provided or to which he had access due to his duty from February to December 2022.

The prosecution alleges that he was aware that his partner was collecting information about a foreign country. She is accused of then forwarding the obtained data to several addresses outside Croatia.

A significant part of the suspicions is related to Kosovo and the period when the Croatian pilot served within KFOR.

He is suspected of providing his partner with information about KFOR troop movements, the security situation and developments in northern Kosovo. According to Croatian media reports, this information was then allegedly passed on to the Serbian List.

Among the data discovered, it is suspected that there was also information about the movements of Serbs in northern Kosovo from the end of 2022, a period characterized by increased tensions in that part of the country.

The Prosecutor's Office in Split has asked the Court to continue the measures against the accused due to the risk of flight.

The former pilot, meanwhile, was released from custody at the end of October last year, with precautionary measures and a ban on contact with one of the witnesses. After the case against him was opened, he was also dismissed from military service.
