US House Speaker Mike Turner says all members of Congress have been given access to information about a "serious national security threat".
He asks Biden to "declassify all information so that Congress, the administration and allies can openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat."
Jake Sullivan, the US president's national security adviser, said he would personally brief congressional leaders on the subject on Thursday.
He did not give details about what the threat is.
But two sources and a US official told CNN that the threat is linked to Russia. Multiple sources familiar with the intelligence characterized it as "highly sensitive."
One of the sources who has seen the intelligence confirmed that "it is, in fact, a very disturbing and destabilizing" Russian capability "that we were recently made aware of." But House Speaker Mike Johnson later tried to calm concerns about the undefined threat, saying there was "no cause for alarm".
"We just want to make sure everyone is on board," Johnson said. "We are working on it and there is no need for alarm."
While Wednesday's warning was vague, the United States has long been concerned about Russia's military capabilities and its destabilizing influence in Europe and around the world as the war in Ukraine continues.
