The US and Turkey have begun talks under the Strategic Mechanism, a platform that includes a wide range of co-operation between the two countries agreed during the Biden-Erdogan meeting in Rome in October last year.
Co-operation within this mechanism extends from defence, economy, security to climate and all other issues of common interest.
The first talks successfully closed in Ankara between the U.S. delegation led by Vice Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and the Turkish delegation led by Vice Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.
Under the agreement, Tuesday and Wednesday in Ankara will arrive in Ankara. Trade Secretary Marisa Lago to talk about signing joint trade agreements within the framework of the strategic mechanism.
The two countries can easily find co-operation in all areas, except defence and military industry, where Washington and Ankara have collided over the S-400 defense system, which Turkey has bought from Russia and the f-35 aircraft program, from which the US has excluded Turkey.
However, Russian aggression in Ukraine has approached the two countries even in this direction, and the US has welcomed Turkey's stance and its efforts to negotiate in the conflict and the end of the war.
