Donald Trump's administration has reportedly made numerous efforts to pressure Romania to lift travel restrictions on Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who are facing a number of criminal charges in the country.

The pair have been released from house arrest but are not allowed to leave the country. They deny charges of human trafficking, sexual misconduct and money laundering, as well as forming an organised crime group.

US officials are alleged to have discussed Tate's case with their Romanian counterparts, according to reports in The Financial Times.

Andrew Tate, a champion of Donald Trump, along with his brother are dual citizens of the US and the UK.

The newspaper reports that during several conversations, it was requested that the brothers' passports be returned, while legal proceedings continue.

The article also claims that Trump's special envoy, Richard Grenell, met personally with Romania's foreign minister, although Grenell said he had "no substantive conversations" with Emil Hurezeanu.
