Venezuela continues to deal with the devastating consequences of two powerful earthquakes that struck the country last week, as rescue teams continue the search for thousands of people who are still missing.

So far, authorities report at least 1,450 victims, while tens of thousands of people remain unidentified.

A ray of hope came over the weekend when 33 people were pulled alive from the rubble, including two 11-year-old boys rescued in separate operations. One of them, Moises, was found about three meters under the rubble, next to the bodies of his mother and sister.

Although more than 72 hours have passed since the disaster, rescue teams believe there may still be survivors under the collapsed buildings, especially if they had access to water and food. Residents of the hardest-hit areas continue to search with their bare hands for relatives, requiring the intervention of heavy machinery to remove the concrete.

In many areas, criticism of the authorities for a slow response and lack of coordination is growing. Residents claim that bureaucratic delays and roadblocks have hindered the arrival of aid and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, thousands of homeless people are taking shelter in cars or in makeshift camps, while the golf course in Caraballeda has been transformed into an emergency and aid distribution center.

To reinforce the operations, international teams from Mexico, Spain, Qatar, the US and the UK have arrived in Venezuela. According to the UN, about 2,000 search and rescue specialists, along with trained dogs, medical personnel and micro-drones, are engaged in the effort to find survivors under the rubble.
