A strong earthquake has struck the city of Naples in Italy, causing panic among residents and material damage. The main tremor was recorded at 19:46 and, according to the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), had a magnitude of 4.7, considered the strongest in the last 40 years.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Campi Flegrei area, about 6 kilometers from Naples. The tremors were felt throughout the city and in surrounding municipalities. Then, at around 22:00, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 was recorded.

The tremors caused power outages, the suspension of train and metro services, as well as minor damage to some buildings.

Campi Flegrei, a densely populated volcanic area, has experienced increasingly frequent seismic activity in recent years, prompting increased government monitoring.

According to Italian authorities, 10 people have been reported injured so far, while damage has been found to several buildings and churches.

The Italian Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Nello Musumeci, announced that the authorities are committed to limiting the consequences for the affected families as much as possible.

"I have spoken with the prefect of Naples and am in constant contact with the head of the National Department of Civil Protection, who immediately convened the Crisis Unit. We are following the situation with maximum attention and are guaranteeing full coordination between all operational structures to provide assistance to the population and monitor the territory," declared Musumeci.
