The prosecution says that the Russians arrested this Saturday after the incident at the Arms Factory in Gramsh were taking pictures and tried to enter the perimeter of the factory.

It is still not clear what they are, or what their intentions were. If they were tourists, says the prosecutor's office, they would not react with nerve agents.

In the mechanical weapons factory in Gramsh, weapons have not been produced since 1993. After that, there was only assembly and adjustment of weapons until 2004. In this factory, the process of disassembling weapons started later, which lasted until a year ago.

The plant has army weaponry inside it and is an object of special importance that is guarded by the Albanian army.

Regardless of the intent of the Russians, which remains for the relevant institutions to discover, the situation at the Cekin mechanical plant remains worrying in terms of the working conditions of the employees.

Now it remains as a warehouse of old goods and the conditions are miserable.

The Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi trumpets that we are a NATO country, but if you go to the mechanical plant in Gramsh, you realize that there is neither electricity nor the minimum conditions to have a working environment.

According to sources from the Ministry of Defense, until recently there were about 50 employees, but they were not paid and were forced to quit their jobs.

It is currently a deserted place, with only the guard soldiers who have also not been paid for several months.

The plant also has a director named Lorenc Zani, but in practice he is only his own director.

Vox News tried to reach him, but his number is currently out of service.

Sources specify that most of the metal parts that have been in the plant have been sold for scrap and it is currently completely decommissioned.

Uzina Mekanike Gramsh is a state enterprise, established in 1962, in order to fulfill the requirements of the Albanian Armed Forces for infantry weapons.

The plant is located in the village of Čekina in the municipality of Pishaj, 4 km near the city of Gramsci.

The Gramsh Mechanical Plant was built and started its activity in the 60s, while the production under Chinese license started in 1962 with "Simonov" type rifles with 7.62 mm caliber. In 1974, the production of the famous AK-47 machine gun was installed.

The plant provides manufacturing services for the defense industry, repairs, hot treatments as well as enameling of surfaces. It carried out the project of dismantling surplus armaments, and repairs of existing weapons.

Some time ago, the Plant announced that it would start the production of infantry weapons for which UMG has a license.
