Archaeological discoveries in Zagori

Important archaeological discoveries have been made in Zagori, Gjirokastra, during works to expand and rehabilitate the Çajup-Zagorie road.

Near the village of Sheper, two areas of special archaeological value have been identified.

According to preliminary assessments by specialists from the DSHA and DRTK Gjirokaster, these are traces of an ancient temple from the 3rd–2nd century BC, as well as residential structures from the same period.

The project for carrying out the rescue excavation is currently being prepared, which is planned to take place during May, after approval by the KKTKM, announces the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation.
