Hotel rooms can hide more dirt than we think, but not necessarily in the areas usually considered the most problematic. Matteo Fadenti, a specialist in environmental and workplace prevention techniques, has told Fanpage.it which areas deserve the most attention.
According to him, among the most contaminated are decorative pillows, especially those placed on beds and sofas, as they are often not changed, not removed for washing, and not disinfected regularly.
Bedspreads, sofa covers, and curtains also fall into the same category. Meanwhile, remote controls, keys, doorknobs, and faucets are frequently touched but not always cleaned properly.
As for electric kettles, Fadenti says that the fear of them is often exaggerated. Boiling water at high temperatures eliminates most bacteria, while the risk is greater on textiles, where microorganisms can find more suitable conditions to multiply.
To avoid unnecessary contact with dirt, the expert advises washing hands before and after using frequently touched objects. While on sofas and on covers, it is better to sit with clothes or cover them with a towel.
According to him, disinfecting every surface as soon as you enter the hotel is unnecessary and practically impossible. Furthermore, using disinfectant products on electronic devices can damage them.
