Russia or Iran? Who is attacking Albanian systems

The Albanian government has not officially pointed the finger anywhere for the authorof cyberattacks, which for days have taken government services out of office. But unofficially the suspicions are that there are not any groups of hackers behind these attacks, but unfriendly countries.

Nor are the names of countries mentioned, but started by the precedents of the past. Sources Voxnews.al claim that AKSHI's IT experts and Microsoft believe two could be the countries of origin of the attacks, Russia and Iran.

For the methodology of the attack, experts say that since February, Ukraine and other EU and NATO countries have faced and are facing identical attacks, the cost of which is estimated at over 200,000 euros. This has pushed suspicions that Russia is behind these attacks.

On the other hand, the time when these attacks were carried out, a few days after spak's arrests against a group suspected of Iranian espionage in Albania, fuels other suspicions that Iran may be behind the attacks. Iran has been accused of similar attacks in the past by EU countries, the US, Israel and several Arab countries.

However, key doubts fall on Russia, launched by a recent statement by EU High Representative Josep Borell.

"Russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine has been accompanied by a significant increase in malicious cyber activities, including a worrying number of hackers and hacking groups indiscriminately targeting core entities globally. This increase in malicious cyber activities, in the context of the war against Ukraine, creates unacceptable risks of the effects of possible spread, misinterpretation and escalation," Borell says.

These days, at the centre of cyber attacks have also been several EU countries, and union authorities believe that they are not organised, at least promoted by Russia.
