The Ministry of Education has closed the private kindergarten "Zubyede Hanim" in Tirana, an educational institution depending on the network of institutions "Turgut Ozal", which is financed by the Turkish cleric, Fetullah Gulen.
The closure was made on the grounds of serious violation of the license, since according to the Ministry of Education, the building where the activity was carried out was not equipped with the relevant authorization from the ministry.
Since the failed coup d'état of July 2016, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has launched a campaign of persecution against supporters of cleric Fetullah Gülen, whom he accuses of masterminding that coup.
Erdogan has declared the foundations and institutions founded and directed by Gülen as terrorist organizations, while Albania has also become part of this battle.
For years, Turkey has been demanding the closure of Gulen's schools in Albania, even introducing the Maarif school network in the country, which is supported by Erdogan. The latter is suspected to be behind the continuous postponement of the opening of the Namazgja Mosque, as he accuses that at the head of the Albanian Muslim Community are Gülen's supporters.
