The Economy Committee has considered the draft law submitted by the Government for increasing the salaries of state administration employees. The law is part of the strategy announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama to increase the average salary in the state to 900 euros within two years and is not related to the government's decisions to increase salaries in some categories that came into effect on April 1.
The session was interrupted during the live broadcast on the Parliament's social media pages, while the discussions were postponed to the committee. The official reason given was to give MPs time to table amendments.
Regarding the content of the amendments, no details were given, but during the meeting without cameras, which was officially said to be due to a technical problem, the deputies of the majority and those of the opposition agreed on the need for the law to also provide for the salary increase for them.
Socialists and Democrats have agreed on this point, but what they have not agreed on is who will make the amendment. Neither party has publicly dared to propose this amendment, as the MPs are afraid of the public reaction to it.
From the SP they expect the opposition to make the proposal, from the opposition they expect the socialists to make the proposal. It remains to be seen whether in the following sessions the courage will be taken by one side, or the law will pass through the commission as proposed by the government, without salary increase for the deputies.
