Bettors will be taxed on every ticket they win!

The Minister of Finance, Delina Ibrahimaj, said at the media conference this Friday that the law on online sports betting will be submitted for public consultation very soon, while also clarifying that it is only about legalizing online betting and not opening physical outlets.

Ibrahimaj did not give more details of the law, but sources of Vox News indicate that the prepared draft foresees that in addition to the companies that will place bets, the citizens who play will also be subject to the tax. If the companies, or the company that will be licensed, will be taxed for the total number of tickets they play, the citizens will be taxed only when they win.

On the table are several proposals on the level of this tax. One of them is for the level to be 5 percent and the other 15 percent. To simplify, if a citizen wins a bet of 100,000 Lek, he will be taxed either 5,000 Lek or 15,000 Lek, depending on the option that will be selected.

But, this forecast, as experts from the Ministry of Finance claim for Vox News, may also require intervention in the law on profit tax, where it is currently provided that the tax is zero for incomes up to 14 million ALL and 15 percent for incomes over this level.
