Jail arrests are turning the State Police into a meme organization

A few years ago, among the multitude of announcements distributed by the State Police regarding the actions taken against illegality, there was also one about the arrest of a 63-year-old man from Rubiku. The charge against him was that of smuggling cows and calves.

The announcement at the time further elaborated that the arrested person was caught red-handed with a cow and a calf that he was transporting to Milot, where he would sell them at the livestock market, which is held every Sunday.

The arrest at a time when the country was seething with very active criminal groups, mainly in the field of hashish cultivation, produced a lot of memes on social networks and public reaction, considering it as funny.

A few years later, the police become the object of memes again with the equally ridiculous announcement that they have arrested a young man who was selling contraband cigars, as if they have discovered the biggest evader in the country, the criminal who evaded taxes, damaged the state budget and disabled increasing pensions.

But, more than a criminal, the 32-year-old arrested for smuggling cigars is the victim of constant and direct pressure from the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla. The latter has exerted pressure for statistics of arrests, where more than the quality of the arrested, their number is needed.

This approach of Minister Balla has also been criticized by the Prime Minister. Sources for Vox News indicate that Rama has asked Balla to be more restrained with the "Tempulli" action and to fight organized crime with the zeal that is fighting the tracking of spaccators. Rama has expressed his concern that this policy of Balla is returning to his electoral costs, but it has also increased the dissatisfaction of many family members who have their people in prison for 1.5 grams of hashish.

This harsh policy promoted by the Minister of the Interior contradicts the positions of the Helsinki Committee and other international organizations that, instead of imprisonment, have requested the application of alternative punishments for ordinary crimes.

On the other hand, apart from filling the cells, the policy of arrest and imprisonment for everything also increases the costs in the penitentiary service. This means that the state budget loses twice. As an example, in the case of the cigar seller, a fine imposed on him, apart from collecting income in the budget, would not contribute to the overcrowding of the cells, where it is already known that the country's detention centers have a pronounced problem of overcrowding.

...and above all, the State Police would spare themselves the ridiculous exposure of social media memes.
