Kosovo enters a crucial day today, with protesters returning at 09:00 in front of the Parliament to demand the final vote on the amendments to the Law on Specialized Chambers, while this very Tuesday the deadline for electing a new president also expires.

It's a scenario that Kosovo experienced just a few months ago. The early elections of June 7 were triggered precisely by the failure of the previous Assembly to elect a president. But even the June vote did not resolve the impasse.

The protest resumes today after a turbulent Monday, when the amendments to the Special Law passed in principle with 91 votes, but were not voted on in the second reading. Clashes between protesters and the Police left 17 people seeking medical assistance, 11 citizens and 6 officers, while the Police used tear gas and water cannons.

The KLA War Veterans Organization has called for citizens to return to the square. Today's protest is scheduled to start at 09:00, with the same demand: that the Assembly convene and vote on the amendments to the Special Law in a second reading.

But today is also the last day to elect the president of Kosovo. The turn of these two votes clashed yesterday between Vetëvendosje and PDK. LVV is seeking the election of the president and then a vote on the Special Chamber, while PDK is seeking first the final approval of the changes to the Specialized Chambers and then the president.

Yesterday's meeting between Albin Kurti and PDK leader Bedri Hamza ended without an agreement. However, the head of the LVV parliamentary group, Arbërie Nagavci, declared last night that the party is ready for both votes to take place today, in two sessions.

If the Assembly fails to elect a president within today's deadline, Kosovo faces new elections within 45 days. Thus, the pressure today is both inside and outside the Assembly: the public is demanding a vote on the Special Election, while the parties have only this day to find an agreement on the president.

If a compromise is not found, Kosovo risks ending up exactly where this political cycle began: in elections again.
