Today, on United Nations Day, the Embassy of Sweden in Albania and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced the first edition of the Sustainable Enterprise Assessment.

This initiative aims to express gratitude and appreciation for distinguished enterprises in Albania that are committed to creating a positive impact through unwavering commitment to sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

The Sustainable Enterprise Award is a recognition given to enterprises that are continuously bringing about positive change through their products, operating practices and business strategies.

This initiative has the main goal not only to inspire and mobilize businesses and individuals, but also to put in focus those who are the leaders of a sustainable future. 

The 2023 assessment includes several categories, designed to include businesses of different sizes and characteristics. These categories include:

Micro, small, medium, large and international enterprises. A total of 62 enterprises participated this year, thus creating the conditions for significant achievements and strong competition.

For each category, a special panel of international experts has identified a winner and two finalists.

The selection process for the Evaluation of Sustainable Enterprises is a three-stage evaluation process:

UNDP Internal Selection: In this initial phase, applications are carefully reviewed by UNDP experts and selected to ensure their eligibility and alignment with the SDGs.
Evaluation by External Experts: An independent panel of experts conducts a detailed evaluation of the selected companies, focusing on their sustainability and innovation efforts.

Due Diligence: The final step involves due diligence to ensure transparency and accountability in the selection process.

Nominees, finalists and winners were evaluated for their contributions to sustainable development in Albania.

▪ Micro Entrepreneurship - Winner: Active Albania sh.pk
Finalists: Discover, Discover Albania Shpk. and Bees & Trees sh.pk

▪ Small Business - Winner: Value Provider - Commercey sh.pk
Finalists: DM Consulting Services Albania sh.pk and Pasta Livia, PF

▪ Medium Enterprises - Winner: Elite Travel Group sh.pk
Finalists: Etna Polimer sh.pk and Fix Pro sh.pk

▪ Large Enterprises - Winner: Banka Credins sh.a.
Finalists: Balfin - Balkan Finance Investment Group sh.pk and NOA sh.a.

▪ International Entrepreneurship - Winner: Antea Cement sh.a.
Finalists: Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Albania sh.a. and Vodafone Albania sh.a.

Although the sustainability journey of Albanian businesses has started recently, the quality of the applications and the commitment shown is impressive.
The evaluation of Sustainable Enterprises in Albania serves as a powerful platform for these companies to showcase their efforts, locally and internationally. 

The Assessment of Sustainable Enterprises in Albania 2023 is organized in the context of the project "Collaboration with Entrepreneurship and Solutions for the SDGs", which aims to raise the awareness of the private sector in Albania for the inclusion of the SDGs in their business models. The project is financed by the Embassy of Sweden in Albania.
